Sample Backup Process Utilizing Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers

Below is a sample displaying screenshots of performing a backup of the Advantage product. The full product folder must be included in the backup, as the following is all stored directly in the Advantage Product folder:

·         Application Data – All patient related application data is stored directly in the product folder. This includes but is not limited to all patient demographic data, ledger information, appointment data, insurance information, electronic health records, scanned documents and images, patient notes and alerts.

·         Security Credentials – User login information as well as profile information which control user rights in the software are both stored in tables directly in the main product folder. These files are titled Login.dbf and Profile.dbf.

·         Transaction Details (auditing) – All auditing information is stored directly in the main product folder. These files are titled “SecurityAudit” and “PHIAudit” (6 files total including the .adi, .adt and .adm file extensions. These files contain the auditing of security and login auditing as well as patient health information auditing.

The backup at this point is now scheduled to run every day at 3:30 pm (NOTE: Compulink recommends scheduling backups in the evening hours when no staff is utilizing the software, as backups should not be performed while utilizing the software.) Below is a screenshot of the scheduled job.

The following steps will add encryption to the backup. Right-click the scheduled backup and go to “properties”. Select the “network and security’ option, as shown below.

Selecting the dropdown for “Encryption key” and choosing <new encryption key> brings up the following

Encrypted backup is now scheduled.

The below screenshot is after the backup ran successfully. The “Job Status” displays whether or not the backup was successful.

Sample Restore Process Utilizing Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers

Compulink does not recommend overwriting the product folder when restoring, therefore I have renamed my original folder to “OLD_MDADV.” The below steps are to properly restore the backup. Select “Restore -> New restore job using wizard”

 

 Below is a folder comparison between the original renamed folder and the restored MDADV folder.

 

 Restore is now complete and software may be utilized
