Station License ID Error

Station License ID already is use Error

Problem:

Client is receiving "Station License ID: X already use!! This behavior could be caused by duplicated CBS environmental variables or due to the station or software crashing temporarily.

Solution:

Scenario A: Please verify that all station have a unique station ID. In order to verify the license ID, right click My Computer - > Left click Properties -> choose Advanced Tab -> Click Environment Variables. Under the User variable or System variable, verify that each station is using a unique value (i.e. CBS=A, CBS=B, CBS=C) according to the number of licenses purchased from Compulink.

Scenario B: If the client is using the Sybase engine or Compulink's C/S version, due the file caching on the server, a client could be delayed in restarting the software due to a system or software crash. In order to minimize the down time, reduce the Client Time Out option in Advantage Database server software located on the file server.

To change this setting, log on to your server where Advantage Software resides as Administrator, Click Start -> Programs or All Programs -> Advantage Database Server -> Advantage Configuration Utility or ADS Configuration Utility. Choose the Configuration Utility Tab -> click the Communications Tab -> change the Client Time Out (Seconds) to 60 to reduce the cached time out settings to one minute. This will allow the users to get back in the software after one minute.

Note: Setting this value to lower than 60 seconds is not recommended. In order for this change to take effect, the Advantage Database Server service needs to be restarted. Caution: Restating the Advantage Database Server service will disconnect all users from Advantage Software.

Scenario C: Advantage software checks the integrity of the databases upon launch. This process may delay the launch for up to 30 to 45 seconds depending on the network connection. Users may not notice the software attempting to open in Windows taskbar and may attempt to launch a second instance of the software. Since the record is locked by the first attempt, the second launch attempt is not permitted.
