INSTALLATION:

bulletConnect the Bizcard Reader using USB cable provided
bulletInstall the Bizcard Reader drivers provided on the CD or the Internet
bulletWhen FOUND NEW HARDWARE WIZARD prompts for location of the files, load the CD and point to the CD-ROM’s drive letter for the installation files.

Scanner may require calibration upon its first scanning attempt.

CAUTION: If you have multiple twain devices such as web cams and document scanners, always install the Bizcard Reader LAST using only the latest drivers downloaded from the internet for all devices.

To create a handshake between Bizcard Reader and Compulink software:

Search for any file name with extension of .ds in the windows search utility (Use “*.ds” without the quotation marks) in the search window. Do not use the windows default wiatwain.ds file. The path for the “device Specific” file should usually show as one of the following:

WARNING: THE PATH IS CASE SENSITIVE!

Please enter exactly as it reflects in your system.

For Win 9X or XP: C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\EdtCard\EDT900.ds

For Win 2K or XP upgrades: C:\WINNT\twain_32\EdtCard\EDT900.ds

Enter the path EXACTLY in the appropriate workstation setup field by clicking EDIT: (Ins. Card Twain Device) in the utility menu of the main page (see below) and click save (icon next to the help icon)

HOW To scan a Medical/business card:

click on the images to enlarge and click BACK within the browser window to return

You may need to calibrate the scanner upon its first use.

Step 1) Open the patient demographics screen for your patient and click INSURANCE
Step 2) Add or select an insurance carrier and click CARD

Error: "Your login access privileges do not allow you to update card". Prior to scanning a card be sure and select or add an insurance carrier.

Multiple images or patient's drivers license image can be added by selecting different carriers.

Step 3) Click the appropriate SCAN button for the FRONT or BACK of the card

If you are planning on printing your cards, check Scan two-sided card (front and back) and only use the FRONT window.  Using this option will print the card on one sheet.

Compulink recommends 200 dpi Resolution, Grayscale (8 bits) or True Color (24 bits) with Auto Start Scan feature checked (optional).

Using Auto Start Scan will eliminate the need for pressing the second scan button. The scanner will pull the card through once the card is detected.

Caution:  Choosing True Color (24 bits) or higher resolutions will increase the size of the image and may result in Error 5017 (see troubleshooting section below)

Step 4) Click Scan in the BizcardReader Driver interface or place the card in the scanner to transfer the image if AUTO Start Scan is enabled.

NOTE:  This default configuration is based upon a 90 lb paper type index, medical, and    business card with a white background image. Different card types may require changes to this configuration.

Troubleshooting:

bullet

Access Violation or lock-ups can also occur if from within the BizCard reader screen settings you click cancel and exit without scanning. You must exit the Advantage software and launch it again for the software to function in this section again. Some screens and records may be locked for a short period of time or until the server is reset.

Make sure the card is inserted in the scanner properly and all the way.  Card not scanned properly or missed scans causes most errors and lock-ups.  If pressing the scan button in the insurance screen will not respond or after an access violation, you must close and re-open Advantage software.  "Auto Start Scan" feature could eliminate some of these issues. If you are using Advantage version 8.1, the new TWAINWAN has improved this interface and a time-out has been built in.  You must have an executable dated 11/10/05 or better to take advantage of this time-out fix.

bullet

The path to the insurance card reader under the workstation setup is case sensitive.  You can  copy and paste the path from the windows explorer address bar where available.  When using TWAINWAN, this path must exist in the "workstation setup" of the session.

bullet

Certain plastic cards will scan solid black only.  Try setting the image to grayscale and change the brightness for these types of cards.  Calibration could also assist in scanning better quality images.

bullet

Error "Your login access privileges do not allow you to update card". This error is produced  when you try to scan a card without an insurance company selected. An Insurance carrier must exist and selected before scanning a card.

bullet

If a card is too thin, you must use the plastic jackets provided or the scanner will not pull the paper in.

bullet

In certain instances and older versions of Advantage software, the "device-specific" (\EDT900.ds) file name needs to be taken out from the path in workstation setup. (example For Win 9X or XP: (C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\EdtCard)

bullet

Windows should automatically detect the bizcard reader. If new device found is not recognized as Bizcard Reader (for example: Unknown Device found), the bizcard reader may be defective.

bullet

If you are installing two TWAIN devices on one computer, be sure to only load the latest device drivers downloaded from the Internet.  DO NOT INSTALL ANY ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE ON THE CD-ROM PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.  Always install the Bizcard reader last.

bullet

User must have WRITE/CHANGE access permission to the %system% directory (WINNT or WINDOWS) directory when installing and using Bizcard Reader.  If you are using TWAINWAN, the user must also have access to the root of the "C" drive.

bullet

Error 5017: Data was to long for the destination and was truncated Memo field overflow.  Large file sizes and large size transfer causes this error.  Compulink recommends using 200DPI, grayscale 8bit with the "Auto Start Scan" feature checked.  Only select higher resolutions when it is  absolutely necessary.

bullet

In most cases, updating the drivers from http://www.bizcardreader.com will help eliminate most drivers issues.  Once the drivers are updated, be sure that scanning is done with the recommended resolution.

bullet

AMD processors are not supported by this bizcard/Insurance card reader.
